A brilliant example of what proper training can achieve in just 19 months, well done Wayne!

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

Hopefully you recently read about Wayne who had only started running about 19 months ago during lock down. Having not done any physical sport since school, his improvement has been nothing short of amazing. We have been working together to try and break the sub 40 barrier for a 10k. Back in July Wayne ran the Dinton Pastures race in 40 minutes and 35 seconds.Since then we have been working together to try and find that extra piece of speed needed to smash the 40 minute barrier.

On the 29th of August Wayne lined up for the Dorney 10k. I had decided to taper Wayne down for 2 weeks so that he was fully fresh. We had many weeks of training together so I felt that the 2 weeks was the perfect fit to be in top form come race day. And so it proved with Wayne coming home with an outstanding 38 minutes and 43 seconds, a big improvement from the 40 minutes 35 seconds attempt back in July. Not only that but Wayne was a long way inside 40 minutes, he ran even faster than I expected! When I heard Wayne's time I was jumping around my kitchen pumping my fist, such a cool feeling after all the hard work he had put in.

Wayne is a fantastic example of what can be achieved in a very short space of time if an athlete is willing to train properly and believe in me as a coach. There are so many athlete's out there that continue to train poorly day in day out for many years and sadly never even get close to their potential. I see this on a daily basis on strava, much to my frustration! If you are willing to listen and stick with the process then in the end you will be rewarded. I also see so many athlete's that are continuously injured believing that they are simply "injury prone." But 9 times out of 10 this is not the case, it is their dreadful training regime.

Myself and Wayne are now working towards the Oxford Half Marathon in October and hopefully going under 1 hour and 30 minutes for Wayne's first ever race at this distance. Please keep watching for further updates.
