I have really enjoyed working with Marie, she has been brilliant and watching her progress over the last 6 or so months has been very rewarding. One of Marie's major struggles has been getting too nervous on the day of a race, it has been having a negative effect on her performance. In the build up to our target race the Reading Half Marathon I have had Marie out at a couple of 5 and 10 k races not only to go for a pb but also to help her get some much needed race practise in.
Recently on the 10th of October 21 Marie went to the Silverstone 10k. We were blessed with good conditions, a cool day with little wind. Thankfully Marie managed to stay calm and after a good warm up was able to execute an excellent race ending with a fantastic new pb of 1 hour 1 minute and 1 second, a new pb by over 5 minutes! Although Marie was a little disappointed she did not manage to go under 60 minutes, I explained to her that we had not tapered for this race due to Reading Half being our main target. Also Marie ran quite a bit further than 10k due to not sticking to the racing line. So all this considered I am very confident that in the near future we can get under that 60 minute mark.
We now continue to train for the Reading Half Marathon and our target of going under 2 hours and 15 minutes. On her current form this is looking very promising and I am looking forward to the coming weeks, Marie's progress has been excellent and I really enjoy working with her.
