I have had the pleasure of working with Dan for the last few years. At times he can be tricky to train, always pushing for more and more. I have to be strict with him otherwise he can end up running himself into trouble.
Back in July 2021 we started to build for the Amsterdam Marathon but due to a very hot summer and the persistent problems associated with covid we decided to abandon that campaign. We decided to start again in 2022 and build for the Edinburgh Marathon and although this race is in May it is far enough north to hopefully still be nice and cool.
During the build up to this race we decided to also target the Chichester Half Marathon on the 3rd of April 2022. In the weeks previous to the race Dan had been finding marathon training very tough so I had decided to adjust his training. I wanted him to run a fast half marathon so it was important to find a balance between being fit for Chichester and Edinburgh.
Fortunately Dan was blessed with amazing conditions and he came home with an excellent time of 1 hour 43 minutes and 7 seconds. This was a full 2 minute and 28 second pb from his previous best at The Dorney Half back in May of 2021. A pb of over 2 minutes is a massive improvement and it was a real pleasure to see Dan so happy. It has been a really tricky time over the last couple of years with things being cancelled and moved during the pandemic so to finally pull off such an amazing pb was great news.
We now continue to train for the Edinburgh Marathon in May, Dan's first ever race at this distance.
