Myself, Marco and Paul recently attended the Clapham 5k on the 23rd of January 2022. We knew it was a fast course and given the fact that all 3 of us were off the back of a successful cross country league season we really felt as if we could get fast times.
And so it proved with Marco coming home in an excellent 18 minutes 53 seconds. This was a 9 second pb and just as importantly he got under 19 minutes for the first time, fantastic running from Marco! In true Marco fashion he crossed the line fist pumping and shouting, a characteristic reminiscent of the former world snooker champion Peter Ebdon. Some people used to frown on Peters table side behaviour but I always liked the passion and desire it showed. Sport needs characters, without them it is never as good.
Paul improved his pb by a massive 36 seconds from 19 minutes 52 seconds down to 19 minutes 16 seconds, so cool! As ever he appeared to cross the line looking as if he had just been out for a Sunday afternoon stroll. This is a characteristic very typical of Paul, it always makes me laugh!
As for me I sneaked inside my pb by 7 seconds, but what really made the day special was the fact that Marco finished 2nd, Paul 4th and I took the win. Afterwards all 3 of us were buzzing, these are the rare days in sport that one must learn to really enjoy and appreciate after so many weeks of training.
As we speak myself and Paul are continuing to train for the Leicester Half Marathon in February and Marco the Cardiff Half Marathon in March. Please keep an eye on my blog for further updates.
