London Winter 10k,pb's all round!

It has been a pleasure to team up with Marco and Paul again and the boys have been working hard since the autumn. Along with half marathons later this month the London Winter 10k race on the 5th of Feb 2023 is a big target for us. If you read my blogs you will know that Marco broke the 40 minute 10k barrier back in August 2021 and Paul back in March 2022 so to pb again was going to need a quality training campaign.

The London Winter 10k is a really great event with a fantastic atmosphere and come the day we were blessed with near perfect conditions, cold but not too cold and minimal wind. I knew the boys were in great form from their training sessions plus I had increased their weekly volume from previous campaigns which I knew would make a difference. As I so often like to say, easy volume is king! If an athlete runs the right amount of weekly miles at the correct paces then relevant volume is absolutely key.

After a fantastic race I am pleased to announce that both Paul and Marco came home with massive pb's! Paul ran a full 37 seconds faster than his previous pb to come home with a brilliant 38 minutes and 56 seconds! Marco ran an amazing time of 38 minutes and 11 secs, an incredible 1 minute 44 seconds faster than his previous pb! That is some serious improvement for both boys and very satisfying for me as their coach.

As for me I ran a new pb in 37 minutes and 36 seconds, a full 28 seconds off my old pb which I set back in May 2016! It has been a long road but after changing my training this season it has certainly paid off. I also finished 4th in my class and I managed 98th overall out of around 18000 runners, so pleased!

All in all it was a brilliant day and I cant wait to see how we all get on at our half marathons later in February, watch this space!
