Myself and Paul have worked together for many months now and it has been a while since we attempted to break his half marathon pb. Due to the pandemic chances have been a little difficult to come by since Paul ran a brilliant time at Goodwood in April of 2021, (see previous report).
Recently Paul decided he wanted to race the Reading Half Marathon on the 3rd of April 2022. Seeing as he was off the back of an excellent run at the Eastleigh 10k I thought that it would be a good plan. However with limited preparation time we both knew it could be tricky to get a pb. Paul's 1 hour 28 minute and 55 second run from 2021 was never going to be easy to beat.
Paul was blessed with near perfect conditions on the day, cold and sunny. He ran an excellent race coming home with a new pb of 1 hour 28 minutes and 28 seconds. Although this was only 27 seconds better than his previous best it is still a decent margin and a pb well worth celebrating. Interestingly, myself and Paul have realised that Paul's half marathon speed appears to have plateaued a little and should he want to run substantially faster then we probably need a different strategy. We are currently planning on another half marathon attempt in the near future, but with summer approaching we may have to wait a while. Keep reading for further updates, Paul's improvement these last couple of years has been fantastic.
