Paul breaks the sub 40 minute 10k barrier!

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

As you will know myself and Paul have been on many adventures over the last few years but one barrier Paul has not been able to break on a few occasions is the magic sub 40 minute 10k. It is so tough to do because an athlete has to average at least 6 minutes and 25 seconds per mile, far from easy!

Myself and Paul decide to target the Eastleigh 10k on the 20th of March 2022. Just like myself Paul has a severe dislike for warm weather so we kept our fingers crossed that we would be blessed with cold and sunny conditions come race day. After several weeks of targeted training the weather is always the one thing we cannot control.

Fortunately come the 20th of March we were gifted with near perfect conditions. I had given Paul strict instructions with regards to pacing in the race and also plenty of pace practice sessions in training. It was all there for Paul to execute, there was little room for error.

In the end Paul ran a brilliant race with such consistency that he came home with nearly 30 seconds to spare! He went under the magic 40 minute barrier in an excellent time of 39 minutes and 31 seconds! And this was also a huge pb by 1 minute and 19 seconds, incredible improvement from his last attempt pre lock down in 2020.

Next we are working towards a new half marathon pb, keep reading for further updates. Paul has been a pleasure to work with and I look forward to more adventures with him in the near future.
